How to Organise a Football Tournament in Bangalore — Complete Guide

Running a football tournament for your company, college or community group is one of the best events you can organise. But it needs careful planning. Here is a step-by-step guide based on the tournaments we have hosted at Play Matrix.

Step 1 — choose the right format

The format decides everything: number of teams, match length and how long the tournament runs. For a one-day event with 8 teams, a group stage (4 groups of 2) followed by knockouts works well. 5v5 is faster and allows more matches; 7v7 is more tactical and suits experienced players.

• ✓7v7 (35-minute matches): better for fewer teams, more structured

• ✓Round-robin: best for a small group of 4–6 teams

Step 2 — book the venue early

For a full-day tournament, you need the turf to yourself. Play Matrix offers full-day exclusive bookings for tournaments, including floodlighting, seating for spectators, changing rooms and an on-site coordinator. WhatsApp us 2–3 weeks ahead for tournament dates.

Step 3 — umpiring and scoring

Assign neutral umpires for each match. For corporate tournaments, we can provide umpires on request. Use a simple scoresheet or a free tournament app (Challonge, BracketHQ) to manage the bracket. Choose a tournament coordinator who is not playing.

Step 4 — day-of arrangements

Brief all team captains 20 minutes before the first game. Print the schedule and put it up where everyone can see it. Start on time — delays add up through the day. Run a short opening (even a 2-minute coin toss with all captains) to set the tone. Keep a first-aid kit on site.
